You can make it designer ice cream by adding your favorite candies, sprinkles, nuts, chocolate chips, cookies, cereal, etc. The ice cream turns out rich and creamy and perfect alone or used on top of pie or cake. It’s hard to hold myself back because there …

Mexican Street Corn Salad

I’ve eaten Mexican street corn several times and I’m in love with it.  Who doesn’t love corn on the cob, slathered in mayo and topped the cheese? The only problem I have with it is it’s extremely messy and nearly impossible to eat. Seems like I can never eat it without something falling on my …

STRAWBERRY RHUBARB MASON JAR PIES

I love picnics and I love fruit pies in the summer, especially mini pies.  Growing up, summer was so special growing up in the Midwest.  I especially remember the picnics we would have in the forest preserve.  My father would come home from work, mom would have the dinner packed and we would find the …

EASY CROCKPOT CORNED BEEF

The luck of the Irish will be with you when you make this easy and tender corned beef recipe. My Dad’s birthday was March 17th and we have a wee bit of Irish in us so our family always celebrated with a corned beef. My mother didn’t use this recipe but I found the crockpot …

DARLENE’S BEST CLASSIC BANANA BREAD

Banana bread is the #1 most popular quick bread and it’s easy to see why, especially when you make my recipe. Super Bowl Spectacular Food & Decorations

My brain whirls with ideas 24/7 so it was great fun to put together a big game spread for Atlanta & Co. I’m not really into football that much but who says you have to be to enjoy a party with friends. On game day I’m all about the three F’s (friends, food, fun).  I …

DARLENE’S HALFTIME TOTS

The big game is coming up. I must confess, I’m not a big football fanatic but I sure enjoy going to the parties with friends and watching the commercials. Is that bad? Whether I’m hosting at home or bringing a dish to someone else, I’m always looking for recipes that appeal to everyone and usually …

PEANUT MARSHMALLOW CLUSTERS

I was in a store during the holidays and this sweet older woman set out treats for the customers.  I always make so many cookies that I wasn’t going to take any, until I spied this little wonder. I was intrigued. It looked like nothing I had ever made before.  One bite and I …

All About Me

Welcome to my little slice of heaven – BAKING & MAKING SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING! My passion for baking started with my Easy-Bake oven and now look where I am! I am very creative, with an artistic flare and you will see that I put my own unique touch on everything I do, whether it’s baking, re-purposing vintage clothing, designing event décor, or construction work. I am adventuresome and not afraid to try new things, think outside the box and continue to learn every day. My four children love being taste testers for me. I want everything I bake to taste great, be creative and original; like me! I put love into everything I bake and that’s the secret ingredient to my success! Subscribe to my blog to follow my journey, adventures, recipes, tips, how-tos, and of course, I’ll share the failures with you too. There’s no sense in both of us failing, is there? Thanks to my need for a few ingredients one afternoon and being in the right store at the right time, I am a contestant on the CBS show, American Baking Competition! Please do tune in to watch me on Wednesdays 8/7c. Read more of my interview with CBS.
