My favorite thing to use while frosting is a Wilton off-set spatula.  It’s a staple in my house and is used on a regular basis.  I’m always about saving money so buy it at Michael’s or another craft store with a 40% off coupon.  You won’t regret it!



You probably know to have your butter at room temperature but did you know that your eggs should be too?  If I know what I’m baking, I’ll set them out in the early morning but many times I make something last minute; in that case, place them in a bowl of warm water for about 15 minutes and they should be ready.

I was getting tired of watching my cakes rise too high in the center so I finally went out and bought cake pan strips that you wet and wrap around the outside of your pans and guess what?  They work!  My cakes are now close to level without having to shave off much, if anything.  I bought mine at a cake store but I believe most craft stores carry them (and don’t forget to use your coupons)!

One of the most important things to have in a kitchen is a great set of knives.  Really, don’t skimp on knives!  When I would go visit my Mom, she had a cheap knife she used that was probably 40 yrs old and it was like slicing with cardboard.  It mutilated everything I used it for and was so frustrating.  I was given Chicago Cutlery knives 28 years ago and I still use them today.  I know there are many other great knives out there and I can’t tell you how easy these have made my life.  I have all different sizes.  And yes, a few years back I gave my Mother a few chef knives for Christmas.  I hope she threw the others out!  Also, always hand wash your expensive knives.
